Sakai 2.9 Release and Accessibility Testing

  • Potential new beta or release candidate release the week of September 10.
  • The group has been continuing to address outstanding blockers for 2.9 release
  • Looking to QA 2.9 in late October or after October 12th.

Discussion of Critical and Major Issues Culled from the Review Results

  • The group discussed the priority levels of the accessibility issues discovered during the 2.9 review and currently open accessibility JIRA tickets:

Potential Student Facing Critical Issues

Profile 2
  • The majority of the form controls on the main Profile page (Basic Information section, etc.) 
    • Determined: Major 
  • Birth date text entry read as "read-only edit". The SR user has no idea they are on a click-able element that activates the date picker. 
    • Determined: Critical 
  • Calendar icon graphic is announced as "graphic select your birth date. You can control the display of your birth year".  
    • Determined: Major
  • Clicking on the graphic results in getting bounced out of the modal area.  
    • Determined: critical 
  • If for some reason you knew you activated the date-picker, it would not be announced and you couldn't manipulate it with the keyboard.

  • When adding a connection the resultant modal window is announced "profile frame" after clicking "Add as a connection" link. Focus is on "add connection" but not announced. Arrowing down announces "cancel" button. Must arrow up to get to rest of information on the modal window.

  • Published, Joinable, Public View, Custom View  radio buttons do not have a legend. For instance, tabbing to the Joinable No radio button simply says "No Radio button checked 2 of 2" and does not say what you are saying no to.

  • SAK-21797 - The "Type of Site" Heading on the Login Page Site Browser Tool is misleading to low-vision/ blind users. It should be changed into a legend for the radio button set. 
  • SAK-21801 - Login Page Site Browser Tool is missing reset feature 
  • SAK-21802 - When no search results are returned for Login Page Site Browser Tool, the search criteria is missing from the instructions text 
  • SAK-21803 - There is no way for a user to modify their search terms, using the Login Page Site Browser Tool 
  • SAK-21804 - Academic Term search options for the Login Page Site Browser Tool can be specified without selecting the parent form control 
  • SAK-21805 - Form control values are maintained after validation errors occur on Login Page New Account Tool 
  • SAK-21806 - User search feature should not appear in the Users Tool action bar 
  • SAK-21808 - There are multiple accessibility issues with required fields on the new user page of the Users Tool 
  • SAK-22309 - NeoPortal Worksites Menu ARIA Utilization Is Incomplete and Interferes with Screen-Reader Access to the Sites Menu
