WebCT-to-Sakai Mapping

An attempt to map WebCT Tools into Sakai. Feel free to modify, comment, update! This is in alphabetic order of WebCT tools (from Add Page or Tools). There is no importance ranking (must migrate vs. don't care).

Notes:

some Sakai tools listed may be stealthed (sakai.messagecenter, sakai.samigo), provisional (sakai.melete), or collab
i'm trying to go with the Sakai tool name "out-of-the-box", but I might be wrong.

Assignments	Assignments, Drop Box	needs to tie to Sakai's Schedule and Gradebook
Calendar	Schedule
CD-ROM	Resources?	WebCT's CDROM tool allowed you to map a drive to a spot in WebCT's course file system, when you followed a link to a resource it pulled it from the CDROM. Needed to have a placeholders that matched the content on the CD.
Chat	Chat Room	Prob. little need to actually migrate chat content, archived chats in WebCT are just text files
Compile	Melete?	It's a tool that works with Content Modules to allow a student to collate pages of content for easy downloading or printing, not as a standalone.
Content Module	Resource, Modules (aka Melete), SCORM Player?	Content Modules are the most structured way to display content, lots of similarities to Melete (e.g., creating sections of material, either display HTML content or link to files, import/export). CMs could have specific page properties (e.g., links to URLs, Audio, Video, Self-Tests, etc) as well as have inline Quizzes.
Discussions	Discussion and Private Message (aka JForum), MessageCenter	WebCT has a Topics/Threads structure.
Glossary	OSP Glossary Tool, Wiki
Image Database	ProjectPad Image Annotator?	Searchable, categorizable images with annotation.
Index	N/A
Language Selector	N/A	Internationalization effort?
Mail	Email Archive, MessageCenter?	WebCT's internal mail tool, but could forward out.
My Grades	GradeBook	Would like to replicate manually added columns from an import and add automatic ones when tools like Assignments and Quizzes are imported.
My Progress	?	Student's view of progress within site.
Organizer Page	?	WebCT's Organizer Pages allowed you to group things at a sub-level, could be used to group tools, separate content, etc. The closest thing in Sakai is at the admin level where you can create a Page with X tools on it. Organizer Pages could also have "content" (headers, footers). The main course Homepage was used typically for Announcements.
Quizzes/Surveys	Test & Quizzes (aka Samigo)	needs to tie to Sakai's Schedule and Gradebook
Resume Course	?	tied to Content Modules, not standalone tool.
Search	Search	WebCT's search spans both Content Modules and Discussions
Self Test	Test & Quizzes (aka Samigo)
Single Page	Resources
Student Homepages	Profile? Wiki?	A little space to announce who you are, put up a picture, etc. Unlikely to need actual migration.
Student Presentations	OSP? Wiki?	Also had group generator that created spaces for each group of students and a Discussion area
Student Tips	?	WebCT's Student Tips were pop-ups of randomized information the instructor put in.
Syllabus	Syllabus	Can be either be a group of txt/html sections (e.g., Instructor Info) or a link to a Syllabus file (e.g., syllabus.doc)
