The Data Warehouse is designed to use in conjunction with Reports. It provides a way to abstract reportable data from the Sakai database through the Sakai APIs, which avoids the need to know about the data model of the database. It also allows access to data in the database that are stored in xml (resource metadata, forms data, etc), by extracting that information through the APIs and putting it into tables in the data warehouse area. Reports, therefore, are as backwards compatible as the APIs are. |

The Sakai Installer project started as an experiment by Edia in running Sakai off a USB stick. We wanted to find a way to make it easier for people to give Sakai a try and at the same time we wanted something to hand out during the Amsterdam Sakai conference in 2007 that would make people notice us. I think I can say we succeeded in both. The version that we're now open sourcing is an updated version of the one that we created the Sakai on a USB stick with. That USB stick contained an installer that does two things: it check for and installs a Java JRE and it starts a demo version of Sakai that is placed on the stick alongside the installer. Once started, Sakai runs entirely from the stick. The database is HSQLDB, which is stored on the stick itself. That means you can start Sakai from the stick, create users, sites, resources etc and than plug the stick into a different computer and find Sakai in the exact state that you left it in. SakaiAdminX is a web application that seeks to simplify and ease Sakai administrative tasks. Using SakaiAdminX you can:
SakaiAdminX introduces more levels of administrative permissions to Sakai which allows a single Sakai environment to be used for multiple institutions or clients. This is achieved through the concept of 'clients', where each client has a set of sites attached to it - with their own branding/look and feel. Each client also has its own admin/helpdesk users who have access to all sites attached to that client. You also get a helpdesk user, which has access to all sites like an admin user and you assign users to be helpdesk users giving them access to all sites, much like the admin user works in Sakai at present. The main function of SakaiAdminX revolves around the 'Site Profile'. This is a place where all editing of the site takes place, ie title, skin, icon, contact details, as well as adding and removing users. All done with far less clicks than the existing Sakai interfaces, and all done on the one screen. The Site Profile is easily extensible, so if you need additional functionality, just plug it in! SakaiAdminX can also be deployed separate to Sakai itself, or sitting alongside the rest of the Sakai webapps as it makes use of a vastly extended set of webservices written for Sakai. SakaiAdminX includes a single sign on from SakaiAdminX to your existing Sakai installation, and can be CASified easily (instructions included). |

On today's campus, two main enterprise applications run the business of a college or university. The Student Information System (SIS) is the lifeblood for tracking courses, enrollment, and outcomes at an institution. The Learning Management System (LMS) has attained a high profile on campus as learning demands for the student population change and evolve. To continue to deliver solutions that meet the critical needs of higher education, Unicon and Oracle have partnered together to integrate these two applications to offer a complete solution to the marketplace that allows for integration of course, enrollment, and outcomes information to be exchanged between the Student Information System and the Learning Management System. With the Student Administration Integration Pack (SAIP) for PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Oracle is exposing course and enrollment data via open standards that can be consumed by a Learning Management System. Through the Sakora project, Unicon is providing the functionality for Sakai to consume this data via the same open standards.
