Associate Course Site and Matrix

Description

The project leader creates a course site with the Assignments tool, associates that site with an existing project site, and links matrix cells to individual assignments.

Testing Steps

Create to Course Site for Association with a Matrix-Equipped Project Site

If currently logged in from a previous activity, Log out

Log in as instructor. In top-right corner of 'Welcome' page enter:
user id: 'kfoster'
password: 'kayla'
Click 'Log in' button.

In My Workspace, select Worksite Setup

The 'Worksite Setup' page appears with a list of all sites of which you are a member.

Click New

The 'Site Type' page appears

Click Course, then select an Academic Term
Click Continue

The 'Course/Section Information' page displays

Click Still cannot find your course/section?

The 'Course/Section Information' page redisplays with places to enter a Subject, Course, and Section, as well as an 'Authorization to Allow Roster(s) Site Access' section.

For Subject enter SiteAsso
For Course enter 101
For Section enter 01
For Authorizer's Username enter the user name of the logged in user
Click Continue

The 'Course Site Information' page redisplays with the new course listed as the 'Site Title'

Click Continue

The 'Course Site Tools' page displays

Select Assignments and Resources
Click Continue

The 'Course Site Access' page displays

Accept the defaults and click Continue

The 'Confirm Your Course Site Setup' page displays. Check that the information makes sense.

Click Request Site

One or two emails will be automatically sent to the Authorizer's Username entered in step 6. These can safely be ignored. The 'Worksite Setup' page redisplays, now listing the new site.

Add Users to the Course site

Accept the default of 'Don't Send' and click Continue

The 'Confirming Add Participant(s) to XXX' displays with the new users.

The 'Site Info' page redisplays with the new users listed with the appropriate roles.

Add an Assignment

Associate the Course Site with the Project Site

From the Sakai menu, choose Matrices

The 'Manage Matrices' page displays with the 'Communications Matrix' (and possibly other matrices) listed

From the 'Manage Matrices' page, choose Manage Site Associations

The 'Manage Site Associations' page displays with a red 'x' by the words 'No sites have currently been associated to this site. Please search below and add sites.' The sites of which the logged-in user is a member are listed under 'Sites Available for Association'. (If any sites have previously been associated, the 'Manage Site Associations' page displays the title, site ID, and status for each.)

Next to the course site you created above, click Add (If the site is not visible, you can search for it by the site's title or full ID)

The 'Manage Site Associations' page redisplays with the course site listed under 'Test Project Associations'. There is a 'Remove' link next to the name of the course site and a 'Remove All' link above the list of associated sites.

Click Save

The 'Confirm Site Association Changes' page displays with the red warning 'Are you sure you want to make the following changes?' and the course site listed.

Click Yes

The 'Manage Matrices' page redisplays

Once a course is associated with the Matrices tool, any assignment in the course site can be linked to one or more matrix cells in the site with which it has been associated.

Link an Assignment to a Matrix Cell

Still logged in as Instructor, click the tab for the SiteAsso 101 01 site created above, then click on Assignments in the Sakai menu

The 'Assignment List' page displays.

Locate the assignment created above (or create and save an assignment). Under the appropriate assignment title, click Create/Edit Matrix Links.
Note: If 'Create/Edit Matrix Links' is not visible, the current site has not yet been associated with the Matrices tool in any ePortfolio site.

From the drop-down menu next to Site, choose the Test Project ePortfolio site (the site containing the matrix to which you wish to link the assignment).
Note: If the ePortfolio site you are looking for is not listed in the drop-down menu, the current site has not yet been associated with the Matrices tool in that site.

All of the published matrices in the selected ePortfolio site will be displayed.
Verify you cannot view/link to matrix cells in unassociated sites (including the originating site).
Verify you cannot view/link to matrix cells in unpublished matrices.

Click the 'i' icon in a cell of the matrix

The description and guidance for the cell is displayed in a popup.

Check the boxes in the Freshman/Written and the Sophomore/Written cells and click Save.

The 'Assignment List' page redisplays.

Modify and Delete Link to Matrix Cell Before Student Submission

Click on Create/Edit Matrix Links under the 'Introductory Assignment' created above.

From the Site drop-down, select the Test Project ePortfolio site.

Uncheck the box for Sophomore/Written. Click Save.

Select Test Project site. Click Matrices -> Edit beside Communications Matrix.

Click the 'View Items Linked to this Cell' link at the top of the page.

Under 'Linked Item Name' you should see the Introductory Assignment listed along with the type (assignment) and the course.

Click on the Introductory Assignment link.

Information regarding the assignment is displayed.

Click Back, then Cancel on the Edit Cell page

Edit Matrix page displays again

Click on the Sophomore/Written Cell, then the 'View Items Linked to this Cell' link.

Nothing should display as linked.
