My Profile Draft 2

The following scenario walks through the major states.

Features of this draft

  • Privacy settings are only Connections vs Public. GT and Cambridge indicated they needed some privacy and could see more discrete settings one day, but this was all they needed for now
  • No Save/Cancel buttons. However, changes don't get saved until user navigates away or logs out.
  • Basic Info is essential to be public.

initial screen not shown

John enters My Profile by selecting this option in the header under his name. He wants to make some info private and some info public. By default, his name under Basic Information was Public, and all other blocks were set to be viewable to Connections only. He changes the information for Degree to Public too. John's first and last name has been filled in(If he added his middle name, it would appear under my profile). He adds "Anthropology" by clicking the grey "Click to enter" text. Finally, he changes the privacy of his Basic Information to be viewable to Connections.

He knows he wants to eventually change his photo (since it's only available to Connections, he's OK with uploading it), which he can do by clicking the image (a basic uploader would appear).

Once he changes the settings of Basic Info to be viewable to Connections, he sees a note warning him that his entire profile is now only viewable by his connections. He wonders what that means. He clicks Preview Public Profile.

A lightbox appears that notifies him that his profile is not even searchable. This is more restrictive than he intended. He decides he'll just make his Basic info and Degree public, but will restrict other info to be only viewable to his Connections.
John closes the lightbox.

John selects Public viewability for his Basic info. The Note in the margin disappears.

He then selects Preview Public Profile.

This is more what he had in mind--very minimal information. His photo was designated as only to be viewed by connections so it doesn't appear. Notice that in this view, any fields within the Basic Information block that were left empty don't appear at all. He closes this lightbox and clicks "Preview Profile as a Connection"

He sees that his photo is available to his connection. John closes this lightbox and starts hunting for a photo.

When he navigates away from My Profile, the changes will be committed but until then, he can keep making changes.
