SCORM in Sakai
Presenters: Kirk Alexander, John Bush, Jeff Kahn, Tim Martin, Maggie Ricci
Abstract:
With the advent of tools like SoftChalk, Melete, Raptivity, Adobe Presenter, and Adobe Captivate, to name a few, the possibility of easily producing trackable learning activities is within reach. All of these tools have the ability to produce SCORM output from the quizzes, exercises, and activities embedded within them, but Sakai doesn't quite have the ability to get the tracking information from the SCORM objects and get it into the gradebook. Development from a number of sources has us right at the threshold of being able to use these tools to produce sequenced learning modules and objects that can output student progress and scores to the Sakai Gradebook. Join members of the Sakai community for an overview and discussion of where we are in our efforts to incorporate SCORM into Sakai. Find out how SCORM could support faculty and instructional designers in implementing online and hybrid courses. Discover the different avenues available for integrating SCORM content into Sakai. What is SCORM? SCORM is a set of technical standards for e-learning software products. SCORM tells programmers how to write their code so that it can "play well" with other e-learning software. Specifically, SCORM governs how online learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMSs) communicate with each other. SCORM does not speak to instructional design or any other pedagogical concerns; it is purely a technical standard. (from http://scorm.com/scorm-explained/)
