Screencasts for sakaiproject.org
The Problem
The Sakaiproject.org web site is the first place that a new user would come to learn about Sakai. While there are plenty of text documents out there, there is very little "unbranded" video of how to use Sakai as an out of the box piece of software.
While we can point new users to confluence, Sakai Help and the reference docs included with Sakai, we really probably want the project web site to have a few 60-90 second screencasts that show the basic capabilities of Sakai as a learning management system.
The Sakai Foundation staff receives a lot of email asking about basic capabilities. This project would (hopefully) help everyone understand what Sakai is and how to get it.
Purpose
The purpose of this project would be to create screencasts that raise awareness of Sakai 2's capabilities and general design.
Criteria for Success
- the collection of videos should serve as a sampler for the Sakai-curious to illustrate the basic capabilities of Sakai, not to dive into every feature or "tip" for using the tools
- short (60-90 sec)
- each video follow a similar format
- screen resolution
- all hosted on a common hosting provider (vimeo, etc)
- script
- Establish consistent tagging so that it is easy for users to find
- no mention of deployment specific modifications or support groups

- Oncourse Help All IU videos were created twithout branding for 95% for the content. The styles we have should easily allow for Sakai branding instead.
