David - Peter pointed out to me that it does now give announcements in date order by default (2.1.1 onwards). Harriet

See for further discussion on the last part of this issue.

No worries. Now that I think about this some more, those suggestions would be appropriate to other assessment tools in Sakai, such as Tests & Quizzes (Samigo). Even better, Your last point would make a good general requirement for existing a new assessment tools in Sakai, so I'll clone that piece into a new issue.

Peter: My apologies; you're right that the tool currently does integrate announcements, gradebook, and assignment creation. I should have checked this more carefully before posting that comment. I'm happy to revise the original issue post so that it mentions only the direct link option, if you'd like.

David, with regards to your last point, could you expand on it and provide more details? Currently when you create an Assignment there are checkbox options for triggering an Announcement, "Announce the open date", and for adding a deadline event to the Schedule for the Assignment's due date, "Add due date to schedule". (There is no link to the Assignment in the Announcement, that would be a niceimprovement.) Is there different behavior you're looking for or specific details you like to see changed in the current behavior? Thanks.
Suggested improvements on the Announcements tool:
default sort should show newest on top (current default is chronological); newest posts should be prioritized at top of list, not bottom
default view should be full text; changing this option does not always "stick"
instructors want to customize the order of announcements: e.g., have one announcement permanently appear on top [see for this issue]
simple way for instructors to announce a new assignment; provide a link to the assignment in the body of the announcement; and populate the assignment on the Schedule tool
