Description

When a student is taking a timed assessment, the timer covers the TOC when dropped down.  When closed, it covers the assessment title.

testing this at UVA, I've found a few additional pages where things are looking weird (might not be the same in your instance). I updated testing steps to include them.

Uploading a file to a file upload question, then removing the file.

Quiz invoked via Lessons > Link to test or quiz link

There is a browser width in pixels somewhere in between desktop and mobile view where certain display elements disappear from the pages in Sakai. If a student narrows their browser window or zooms in on the screen sufficiently to hit this width, the timer bar appears oddly in the middle of the page, covering content.

I've finally got back to working on this issue this week locally and just realized today that the conversation has restarted recently here too! Wow - the timing.

Locally, I've moved the timer starting position to below the Table of Contents line and above the Part heading. This is where the timer bar's starting location. I think this makes best sense hierarchically. I'm then using position:sticky so it will move and lock to the top screen when the page scrolls down past the timer bar's starting position. When you scroll back up, it returns to its original position.

I'm currently working on addressing the Question Progress panel's overlap. I think that panel too should follow down the page too. I'm still working out how this will work and will keep you posted shortly.

I'm trying to get this into an upcoming local release, so hopefully I'll have a community contribution soon.

One of the pieces of the timer UI rework was in response to user concerns that the timer bar could not be seen when scrolled down on the page (it used to always be a thin bar up at the very top of the page) - for details.

That said, it should not be covering page content when you are at the top of the page either. When behaving correctly, it should look like this:

Hello all,

Allow me to comment as 'non technical person'.... would it be an idea to have the timer bar sit in the one location that will always be visible? The part where you have your institutional logo, top of window? Might be against all institutional marketing guidelines, but usability wise a better option for learners and that's what institutions are about.... Don't know if it would be possible at all though, also regarding the accessibility.

Kind regards,

Tonco
