Updated file format list in https://sakaiproject.atlassian.net/browse/SAK-23207#icft=SAK-23207 to list the formats supported. Others may work but not be completely compatible.

elect a .flv, .f4v, .mp4, .3gpp, .m4v or .mov file

I don't really think this is a regression, the movie plugin only supports a few select video formats. Sakai doesn't have any capabilities to convert formats. I have an open ticket to update the list of extensions. Really out of the ones you tried only flv and mov should be expected to play, not wma, wmv or avi. Those might play, but it's very OS and Browser dependent. The best advice is to use something like Handbrake to convert to mp4, then it would play on anything and it's about the same file size.

See SAK-23529. With the FF plugin and setting the files to publicly viewable will allow them to play in FF. Tested on Win7 using FF20

IE-8(XP): Everything played except the flv file (01-IE-8.jpg).

2. Windows 7 / IE-9:
All media files inserted correctly using IE-9.
However, only the .mov file actually showed up in Syllabus / Preview.
Firefox-20(W7): Everything played without problems.
IE-9(W7): The only file that is visible & plays is the .mov file (02-IE9.jpg).
Chrome-26(W7): Everything played without problems.
Firefox-20(XP): the flv & mov files played fine. The wma & avi files wouldn't play.
IE-8(XP): Everything played except the flv file.

3. Windows 7 / Chrome-26:
All media files inserted correctly using Chrome-26.

IE-8(XP): Everything played except the flv file.

4. Windows XP / IE-8:
All media files (except the wma) appeared to insert correctly using IE-8.
However, only the .avi & .mov file actually showed up in Syllabus / Preview.
Firefox-20(W7): The avi & mov files played without problems. The flv & wma files didn't play.
IE-9(W7): Nothing played or was visible.
Chrome-26(W7): The avi & mov files played without problems. The flv & wma files didn't play.

IE-8(XP): There were problems adding the videos using IE-8.
The only one that played in IE-8 was the mov file.
The flv file ended up displaying a message in the player (04-flv_error.jpg).
I couldn't add the wma file - each time I tried to click the post button, my session was lost.

Hey Neal,
I'll have to get back to this later as I have a meeting in 3 minutes.
