ReCurving the Grading Scale for a gradebook that is using Letter grades can result in anomalies in the course grade calculation

Description

In a gradebook I adjusted the gradescale by subtracting 10 from each grade range (except for A and A+ which I adjusted to a lesser extent). I set the gradebook to use letter grades.

When I enter a single grade for an item, the course grade is bumped by a full grade. e.g. a D- item grade gets a C- course grade. – see attachment

the problem wouldn't be as apparent without the drastic changes I made to the gradescale, but it could cause some grade anomalies on the borders between grades.

Yes, this duplicates GRBK-668. I am closing this JIRA.

668 was closed. Can this be as well?

I recommend using the midpoint of each grade range in the grading scale as the value assigned for a grade in letter grade mode, rather than a hardcoded list of letter grade translations, as is done now.

Either that, or don't allow the grade scale to be adjusted when the gradebook is set to use letter grade item entry.
