Currently, MUCD does not display letter grades to students unless the instructor deliberately releases them. Otherwise, students' overall course percentages are displayed. Some instructors wish to display percentages to students throughout a quarter, but not show them a letter grade (because cutoffs have not yet been finalized, or for some other pedagogical reason).
Since Sakai will always display the letter grades as defined by cutoffs if the course grades are displayed to students, there is currently no way for Sakai to behave in the same manner as MUCD. The addition of a "suppress letter grade" feature would remedy this.
