Scope

The goal of this document is to provide a high level explanation of how the Gradebook2 Calculations are implemented, for institutions that may be evaluating the tool and/or to aid in QA efforts and explanations to faculty. More technical details (with examples) are available on the UC Davis Confluence site.

Projecting Course Grades

One of the central features of Gradebook2 (and of the original Sakai Gradebook) is to allow instructors and students to see an approximation of their final course grade prior to all gradeable items being completed and grades being entered, or even before the grade book itself is fully set up by the instructor. This approximation moves steadily closer to the final course grade as (a) setup is finalized, and (b) the students are graded and the remaining scores are entered.
