After upgrading from 21.x or 22.x to 23.x or 24.x, Assignments which had Gradebook item associations (e.g., in 22.x, 21.x or before), where the item was created in Gradebook, are lost after upgrading to 23.x or 24.x.

Prior to 23.x, such gradebook item associations were based on the gradebook item’s title.  Beginning with 23.x, the association is now based on the gradebook item’s ID. 

The approach I propose would be to continue to honor these older gradebook item associations based on item titles, but for new associations henceforth to be based on item ID. Though I’m marking this jira as critical, I defer to @Core Team developers and/or others regarding priority (vis-a-vis the 23.0 release) and in determining how to resolve this issue.
