After doing more testing, I realized the Announcement dates in Calendar for an assignment are actually referring to the announcement start and end dates, not the assignment dates. There is an issue when an assignment is updated to open at a later time that the announcement does not get updated, but that will be in a different Jira because the calendar is also affected.

I don't think it's good for dates to show for the same item in Date Manager under different categories (see ), but until this is sorted out with the expected behavior, posting the open date for an assignment to Announcements does not display for that assignment under Announcements.
I posted an assignment that was to be posted to Announcements with the open date/time. I can see the assignment in Date Manager, and it has the date/time under Assignments and no date/time under Announcements.
It also displays under Calendar (so 3 different places to edit date/times!), see SAK-45688.
