Screen reader Accessibility - Adding a tool

Description

This happens when an instructor or site administrator is adding a tool (e.g. Drop Box) to their site.  After we select the tool(s) to add, the top of the page said that newly added tools were highlighted in the list of site tools.

Visually the new tool was bolded and in red text.  But there was no indication when read by a screen reader that said that or made the new tool stand out.  Adding an asterisk by newly added tools instead might be more beneficial for screen reader users.

We discussed this confirmation page at yesterday’s Sakai UX group meeting and decided to simplify the page with just a list of tools that are being added (when new tools are selected) and tools that are being removed (when tools have been deselected). Each list will have a brief introductory line or heading indicating the lists purpose.

We can discuss this at our next UX group meeting to decide which option to proceed with.

There are two ways to address this:

  1. add a plus icon next to tool names that have been added and add descriptive text to the icon for screen readers

  2. or remove the list of existing tools and just display a list of added tools and a list of removed tools for the confirmation

There have been concerns with the confirmation page from sighted users as well, so I think a redesign for this page is needed to correct both issues, as I mentioned in SAK-40598.
