unable to create users

Description

I'm trying to test a gradebook issue that requies lots of users. on Sakai 12.1-RC02 qa site I attempted to import a bunch of users. I failed in several interesting ways:

  • when I tried to upoad a file, I got a browser where I need to click "add" then "upload files." Aside from being the more abstruse UI in the world, it's very hard to make the menu come up In both Firefox and Chrome, clicking on the icon doesn't work. If I move my mouse and click enough, eventually I can get the menu.

  • I now get a place I can drop a file. That works. But it claims I can also use a file chooser. If I click on the area I do get a file chooser, but when I select the file the browser hangs. Both Firefox and Chrome.

  • If I managed to upload the file it says the file is in the wrong format, but with no hint as to what's wrong. I'm attaching it.

I created two new issues https://sakaiproject.atlassian.net/browse/SAK-40023#icft=SAK-40023 and https://sakaiproject.atlassian.net/browse/SAK-40022#icft=SAK-40022 and SAK-40024. It uses opencsv so I don't think there should be any issues with the parsing but it's way out of date so perhaps there is some issue. I'm closing this one for those others.

This feature like most admin tools don't go through as much QA as the others. These issues all sound like they'll need new individual jiras created and mostly are about improving the usability of this feature.

1) I saw the same problem with the clicking, this should be a separate issue that I'll create. I agree it would be nice if this screen was redesigned. https://sakaiproject.atlassian.net/browse/SAK-40022#icft=SAK-40022
2) My browser didn't have any problems with choosing a file, so I can't reproduce this one
3) The Import user screen should minimally provide the user a sample file with the correct format. My guess is that the quoting maybe is throwing it off and it might not be using a good csv parser? I don't know without looking. But it should be fixed. The files that were tested with this are on SAK-21405.
