Charles, I understand your intent. French on both sides of the Atlantic differs much. I would prefer the French Canadians to know their locale translation has not been done instead of them complaining the translation is wrong because they're using the translation for France unknowingly. Would you agree with the explanation for this approach?

I didn't have a fr_CA before Pearson. I had a single fr, which you supplied. So putting back the old translation involved removing Pearson's fr_FR and fr_CA, and putting back your fr. If someone gives me a fr_CA, I'll rename the current one to fr_FR. Do you disagree?

Pearson's contribution through Chris did not contain mn.

If the fr you have comes from France, this is fr_FR. If it comes from Canada, it's fr_CA. A single fr default for both would need agreement from both locale maintainers.

Variants are usable. Do you want Pearson variants available in the default locales?

I'm trying to get locale maintainers to contribute as i18n/L10n coordinator. This is the compromise I've been able to create. I welcome any better idea that could reach as wide an agreement from the L10n contributors.

If you don't agree with the will of locale maintainers to avoid having Pearson's translations being used for their locale when they've not provided a translation yet but intend to, you should at least warn them of your decision.

Before this checkin, I had the following translations:
es, fr, mn

You have made no requests involving mn.

I'm going to revert es and fr. That will mean moving from separate fr_FR and fr_CA to a single fr.

I'm not changing anything else since that would mean leaving no translations at all. I suggest that if the community wants to do ja, nl, and zh, they should just replace the existing Pearson translations when they contribute new ones.

I don't think it makes sense to leave Pearson variants since there would be no effective way to use them.
