I´ve just tested case 3 and works fine. If you enter as instructor you will be able to see an assessment (in the Discussion 1 SMPL101 site) with two calculated questions. If you preview the assessment you might see the formulas and key answer in scientific notation.
USE CASE 1 Exception when saving a question with small numbers (01.png)

When reviewing an assasment, we can see the variables in scientific notation but not the key answers. (04.png)
