can't delete first part

Description

One of our faculty just ran into the problem that you can't delete the first part of an assessment. Clearly we don't want an assessmment with zero parts, but if you have multiple parts, there's no reason not to delete the first. You can emulate this by moving the content of the second to the first, etc, but if you have several parts (e.g. because you are drawing from several pools) this gets tedious very quickly.

This situation really isn't "by design"; the current spec doesn't have anything about not allowing the first part to be deleted. We could allow that. We'd need to make sure that the "Remove part only and move question(s) to " selection on the Remove Part Confirmation page showed the only part selection available.

Actually, this is a bug. The "select one..." selection shouldn't be there, it should just be the "Default" or 1st part. If the first part is the one to be removed, it should have the 2nd part as the default.

Also, another few bugs on this screen:
1) no default selection is shown to the user, but the "Remove part and all questions" selection is submitted when you chose Remove.
2) the "Remove part only and move question(s) to" selection should be first and the default selection
3) "Please choose what you would like to remove" should have an ending period. and shouldn't wrap prematurely.

Karen, can you ask Marc about his original spec?

That's a useful workaround, but it's a workaround. That is, it's something a user would be unlikely to think of on their own, so they would have to contact help and be told about it. That is going to feel to the user like a bug report and a workaround, not normal functioning of the system.

Charles, in case you didn't know, if you have multiple parts, say part 1, part 2 and part3. If you click on the Part 1's pulldown and change it to part 3, then part1 and part3's positions will be swapped. It just takes one step, is it still tedious?

Charles,
Yeah I believe this was the original spec. to prevent people from deleting all parts. Let me talk to our designer and user support group to see what they think.
