Fix looks good to me. Tested on Samsung Galaxy 6. Android version 7.  I uploaded two screenshots, not logged in , and logged in , at home screen.

I've heard the idea of that it may happen but it probably makes sense to raise the issue on Core Team to get a definitive answer.

However with that said, the typical workflow is to always fix issues in master first and if the issue in master resolves an issue in the branch the general rule is to then merge the issue.

Only if we knew that a feature was not going to be merged would we then resort to fixing the issue locally in the branch, so lets bring this issue to the Core Team and get the answers. Which also happens to be one of the purposes of the Core Team!

Then 11.x will not be affected by this issue and a lot of issues from https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-32016, but now is affected.

Is there a plan to merge back the NYU changes?
