It works as expected.

There are at least 100 instances of this pattern (javascript in other tools. Guess it's a bad pattern to use.

OK so created a new PR for the issue Danny described above.
Basically there was js in the href which needed to move to onclick.

I confirm that all "document.getElementById" elements don't work after removing the "javascript:" tag, at least for me in Firefox & Chromium.
I have added the tag in sakai_resources_list.vm and now the links are working fine in my server.
In Sakai 11 QA server when you click on checkbox 'Short URL' nothing happens.
