refers to a visual feature in Worksite Setup screens.
I suppose the bug is present only when using the feature to add a site alias (and not by the admin Alias tool). If this is the case, there's no need to merge this onto 2.6.x!

is not in 2.6.x (new feature), maybe this fix is not needed in 2.6.x. What do you think?

QA ENVIRONMENT -
vista enterprise, firefox
2.6.x server http://nightly2.sakaiproject.org:8082/portal
sakai/trunk on Oracle - Built: 04/10/09 12:00 - Sakai Revision: 59954 - Server localhost
QA SUMMARY -
tried assorted combinations of "unacceptable" characters in alias @ site creation
(course and project).
in all instances, got error message "Alert, "alias name w/bad characters" is invalid"
when I tried to create the site.
you are now prevented from creating a site with bad characters in the alias.
QA RESULTS -
pass

It's switched off by default ().
Also, if you're looking for somewhat expanded alias functionality: SAK-14910.

How can I test this issue? I am not able to find anything in UI related to Site URL Alias (Worksite Setup or Site Info). I have already played with permission functions but were unable to make that options appears in the UI.
This issue is related to the enhancement in ticket ID ).
When I enter any one of the following special characters into a Site URL, I receive an error:
\ # / ; ? % <>
Scenario:
1. Create a worksite with an alias. Include one of the above character in the Site Alias URL.
2. Enter the Site Alias URL in your browser's address field and click enter.
An error occurs. The error varies depending on which character was entered.
/ # ; ? Site Unavailable message is displayed.
\ Blank page is displayed.
% Bad Request message is displayed.
<> URL works, but when I view the Section Admin page, the correct Alias URL is not displayed. For example, the Alias URL is http://e5qa-sakai-nb.wiley.com/portal/site/<test>, but the URL displayed on the Section Admin page is http://e5qa-sakai-nb.wiley.com/portal/site/. <test> is missing.
