I concur.
+1 for changing the UI to reflect what is already happening under the hood.

+1 for the proposed change.

As it stands now, the behavior is that an unchecked item xcredit box is reset to checked internally on the save action when the item is part of an Xcredit category.

It would be less confusing to the user if they couldn't change the xcredit flag entry on an item in an xcredit category, but the user can't actually change it the way it is now. So this is a minor usability change, not a blocker.

I created an XCred cat & added 2 items.
1. in New Item frame, it made no difference whether the Extra credit box was checked or not, the item was always created as XCred
2. in Edit Item frame, it made no difference whether the Extra credit box was checked or not, the item was always created as XCred

I concur w/ Thomas; for items in XCred cats, the Extra credit box should always appear checked but disabled. Perhaps the checked box should be grayed out? It would make sense for it to be in this disabled state for both New Item and Edit Item.
