QA TASK:
Verify that empty weighted categories are now counted toward the grade percentage total and therefore no longer adversely impact projected course grades.
QA SUMMARY:
ART 111A 001 FQ 2009
Weighted Categories/Points mode
Create three categories:
Essays (50% of grade)
Homework (40% of grade)
Empty Category (10% of grade)
Add at least one item to Essays and at least one item to Homework, but no items to Empty Category,
Original problem was that maximum grade for a perfect score was 90%. Thus, projected grades would be lower than they should be. for example, a student with perfect scores in all available Items, thus warranting an A+, could only receive an A-, until an Item was placed in that Category.
Proper projection now allows a maximum of 100%, even if an empty Weighted Category exists..
Verified that empty weighted categories are now counted toward the grade percentage total and therefore no longer adversely impact projected course grades. QA Pass.
QA RESULTS:
Verified that empty weighted categories are now counted toward the grade percentage total and therefore no longer adversely impact projected course grades, QA PASS.
Overall, QA PASS.

vista, firefox, ie7
smartsite-test sakai_2-5-x-test-080 - Sakai 2.5.x-R57934 gb2-1.1.1-b2 - Server sakaitest2
QA SUMMARY -
verify empty category does not adversely affect grade.
1 - deleted everything and set up as above, item 1 in essay and item 2 in hw, nothing in empty cat
2 - graded student's item 1 @ full credit, course grade is 100%.
3 - graded item 2 @ full credit, course grade is 100%.
4 - added item 3 to empty. did not grade. course grade is 100%.
5 - graded item 3 @ 0 for student above, course grade 90%.
IF I understand the problem..I think it's fixed.
that is, in 2-4 above the course grade is 100% and not 90%.
QA RESULTS -
pass on -test

What about if Items are not included in the grade?
That is, if the instructor has three categories:
Essays (50% of grade)
Homework (40% of grade)
Empty Category (10% of grade)
and adds at least one item to Essays and at least one item to Homework, but no items to Empty Category, then grades at least one of those items to 100%, the course grade will max out at 90%. That is, until an item is added to Empty Category, no student can score higher than 90%...
of course this is only true until the item is added to Empty Category and grading is complete, but still it is disturbing and counter-intuitive behavior.
