Scantron file with student_id in first column header causes Unexpected Error

Description

While verifying on NG server, discovered that Scantron file with student_id in first column header causes Unexpected Error. "student id" does not give rise to an unexpected error. (Blank space between student and id, vice an underscore.)

Research by Mike Wenk indicates that the error may be due to the student ids being treated as numeric entries after the XLS file is modified & saved using Excel 2007 (but saving in xls format, while default for Excel 2007 is xlsx).

Environment

Using PC Windows Vista Enterprise SP2 Firefox 3.5.3 on: UCD NG SERVER SmartSite@UCDavis - [sakai_2-5-x-prod-021] - Sakai 2.5.x-R57934 gb2-1.1.0-rc1 - Server mario. Excel 2007

QA ENVIRONMENT -
vista enterprise, firefox, ie7
smartsite-test sakai_2-5-x-test-079 - Sakai 2.5.x-R57934 gb2-1.1.1-b1 - Server sakaitest1

QA SUMMARY -
test that an underscore in student_id no longer is an issue.
1 - used sample scantron (with only sakaistus), imported with column header WITH underscore in
student_id column header.
2 - imported and assigned to exams cat in import-setup (for another JIRA).
3 - got scores, no errors and in correct category - ok
4 - modified spreadsheet and removed underscore, to see what happens. all student names were
red/crossed out and it seemed to take in last_name, first_name, initial and score as unassigned items
@ 100 points each and no scores...a little bizarre. but not the issue here.

QA RESULTS -
pass on -test
