Lessons/Lesson Builder Tool Materials

Note on Potential Terminology Confusion:  Since it was first released, the tool has changed names slightly from the original "Lesson Builder" to the current "Lessons" name.  As a result, there are references to both tool names in various places but they are, in general, referring to the same tool. To potentially further complicate things, when the Sakai project first launched there was a tool called "Melete" developed that is similar to Lessons but not as sophisticated.  The "Melete" tool, at some institutions, was called "Lessons" and thus occasionally this reference may surface.

  1. Lesson Builder Instructor Demo Video - This is an 8-minute video (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2C8kvb7I6I) which was developed to show instructors what Lessons does and how to use it.  Although this is using the prior version of Sakai (2.9), not too much has changed in the latest release (which we are calling Sakai 10) so I think it will give you a good sense of the tool.  In addition, you will hear the presenter note where things are confusion or work arounds which are good examples of places where we know the UX is not ideal.
  2. Lesson Builder Help Document - This web-based help (see https://sakai.rutgers.edu/helpdocs/lessonbuilder.html) was developed by Ruters University where the tool was originally developed.  It contains some screen shots and will also give you a sense of the complex that currently exists in the tool.
  3. Lessons Demo Site - If you would like to use the Lesson Builder tool, you can access an online demo at: https://trysakai.longsight.com.  Sign in using my test account (username: josh.baron, password: expresslabs) and then click on the "test_baron" course button at the top of the screen.  You will see the Lessons tool at the bottom of the left side nav bar.
