The Course Management Working Group (CM-WG) aims to implement a newly designed Sakai administrative tool. This tool will provide an improved workflow for authorized users to establish and manage the organization and memberships of course sites based on Student Information System (SIS) course/section data representing simple and complex course hierarchies. A new underlying Course Management API and service within the Sakai Application Framework (SAF) will be implemented to provide course specific data to this new tool and other Sakai tools.

This effort will address several Sakai community concerns by meeting these goals:

Goals

  • Combine and extend the legacy course managment-related APIs into a single, decoupled, and non-legacy Course Management API within the Sakai Application Framework (SAF) for improved enterprise integration with SISs.
  • Provide a reliable Course Management Service upon which Sakai tools can keep data in synch with underlying course information.
  • Build an enhanced Course Management user interface for the administration of sites based on user-centered design. This tool(s) will have functionality designed to meet verified requirements of the Sakai community.

Note: These new capabilities will be coordinated with and extend the functionality in the 2.1 Section Info tool, which enables the management of section/group metadata and memberships.
