Assignments Tool enhancement for 2.4 - Ability to enter a grade for students who haven't made a submission to an assignment.
With Sakai 2.3 and before, Instructors can give a grade to students for an Assignment only if they have made a submission. With 2.3, all students (even those who did not submit) show in the list when going to grade an assignment. The names of students who have made a submission are shown as a link which when clicked takes the instructor to the grading page for that student. Students who have not submitted are not shown as links, and cannot be assigned a grade.
For 2.4, the names of students who have not submitted will also be shown as a link on the grade assignment page, and can be assigned a grade even though they haven't submitted. In addition, especially for large classes, Instructors need a way to globally assign a grade for all non-submissions as a starting point (rather than having to visit each non-submission grade page to enter the grade). A pulldown on the Assignment grade page which lists all students is provided to optionally assign a grade to all non-submissions.
This enhancement ties in to the 2.4 enhancement 'Non-electronic submission option', which adds a 4th option for submission type. That enhancement includes a grading page for non-electronic assignments (which do not have any submissions). The grading pages described there should be used for students who do not submit to an assignment regardless of submission type (Inline Only, Attachment Only, Inline and Attachment, Non-electronic)
Enhancements include:
- Ability to get to the grade page for non-submissions. These are described in relevant mockups from Kristol's doc on adding the Non-electronic submission type are attached. grade-non-submission.pdf
- Ability to globally assign a grade to all non-submissions for an assignment. The grade is selected from a pulldown list containing the grade scale values in use for that assignment. Null is the default. assignment-grade-list2.pdf
