Enhancing existing functionality

Searching

  • Add next/previous page arrows to bottom of search results
  • Allow user to cancel the current search
  • Advanced (fielded) search - author/title/etc.
  • Multiple selection of specific search targets and groups
  • Improve quality of search results - ranking, merging, problems with particular targets
  • Improve reporting of search result set size
  • Allow user to view document and detailed citation information from results screen
  • Restrict search to full text resources only (may be technically difficult/impossible)

Editing/viewing citation lists

  • Allow users to display citations per established styles such as MLA and APA
  • Reorder fields in citation editing/display windows - most common or important fields at top
  • Split citation list and citation editing screens into standard and advanced sections - allow user to click to expand advanced section
  • Add more citation types
  • Sorting/reordering of citation list
  • Search/list/sort citations across multiple citation lists
  • Fix bugs that cause citation list order to change

Import/Export

  • Make export interface less confusing
  • Add RefWorks export support
  • Add support for import from RIS

General improvements

  • Terminology changes - improve field labels, screen names (better name than "citation list"?)
  • Add more explanatory/help text to screens
  • Make window navigation less confusing
  • Refactor UI - replace popup windows with floating divs

Management

  • Interface for configuring search targets and search sets - possibly support import of search target information from external source (i.e. metasearch engine, ERMS, library web site)

Developing new functionality

New mechanisms for getting citations and links into Sakai

  • Google Scholar
  • Sakai as SFX target

Research Guides

  • Canned searches
  • Constrained searches
  • Librarian role
  • Other

Other integration

  • Embedding of citations and citation lists in other Sakai documents
  • Support other link resolvers besides SFX
  • No labels
