Academic Podcasting: It's Not Just Lectures

Kate Ellis, Indiana University Bloomington

Indiana University Podcast Portal

Abstract

Indiana University recently launched a Faculty Podcasting Initiative, funded by Apple and AT&T, to provide hardware and software to instructors who wish to examine and develop innovative methods of audio and/or video podcasting to enhance student learning. This session will highlight several of the podcasting projects including video interviews with some of the professors. Instructional strategies include student-generated content in the form of storing telling in a foreign language or a collaborative knowledge base, presenting short video screencasts of difficult concepts, and virtual field trips. We will also take a look at the Podcast tool in Sakai, a simple but powerful tool for sharing multimedia content with students.
