Notes

  • Stanford's Local Admin requirements (first blush on whether these items covered in the scope of CM or existing functionality?)
    • Create course site (yes)
    • Enable/Disable Registry synching to import section info for courses with multiple sections or cross-listings for cross-listed courses. (yes, with CM browser admin tool and Realms)
    • Enable/Disable Registry synching to import student registration data (yes, with CM browser admin tool and Realms)
    • Manually sync get course offering from Registry (handled by CM API)
    • Manually sync get student registration data from Registry (clicking "Update" in Site Info or joins changes sections does this, could also add a button)
    • Add/Edit/Remove cross-listing (if using hibernate impl, it's in the CM data and can be manipulated, ask SU: why "edit"?
    • Enable/Disable Instructor-only access (Site Info: publish function, how would you put local admins in sites and then hide them?)
    • Inactivate courses (need more detail)
    • Batch upload users (course membership can be copied and pasted, but sections are different, would be a section info feature request/requirement, SU will probably need to pony up)
    • Copy course content (Common Cartridge stuff long term, also could be hidden user in all sites and use Worksite Setup/Site Info functions)
    • ToDo's
      • Need to put these requirements more in Sakai terminology/constraints (Marc)
      • clarify these requirements and constraints with SU folks (Marc)
      • think through whether putting local admins into each site as hidden members will work (Josh?)
  • aside from Josh: Section Info design consideration: meeting meta data gets populated at site creation, won't get synced later
  • progress in reconciling SIS defined and manually defined section membership (Josh)
    • Josh is working with Glenn to put a hook/rules into AuthZ service to know that someone new has been added to a group, so that other things be done with them, need to wait to see how this pans out
    • need to do Section Info design without assuming this will happen
  • Oracle update (Linda Feng)
    • now have a official team 5 devs in India, one product manager from PS CS team, also highering another product manager (if you know anybody?)
    • Carrie Brown managing the team
    • Linda role is general oversight (??)
    • taken all the CM API and mapped them to CS procedures
    • working on: not a notion of a course set in CS, diff between enrollment in course vs section and site membership
    • creating a web services to make the CM calls (by Oct)
    • by next year, reengineering CS to make the CM calls
    • longer terms goal is to call IMS then there would be an adapter that maps to Sakai CM
    • writing a v.2 IMS enterprise spec charter (.), Linda is co-chairing with guy from D2L, time frame is long term, charter approved in Nov., then spec takes a year
    • Oracle's first release will be somewhere in between so that the CS-Sakai connection can be translated over to IMS
