Set-up groups in portfolio site

Description

The project leader for a project site with portfolio tools logs in, configures the site with users, groups, and instructors, then exercises group filtering

Navigate to Project Site

If currently logged in from Activity Two, Log out

Log in as instructor. In top-right corner of 'Welcome' page enter:
user id: 'kfoster'
password: 'kayla'
Click 'Log in' button.

Select the Test Project site tab (the site created in ST.Script.04.Set-up project site)

'Test Project' Home appears.

Add Additional Participants to Project CIG

Click Site Info from the left hand menu.

The 'Test Project' Site Info page is displayed.

Click Add Participants link at the top of the screen.

The 'Add participants' page is displayed.

In the 'Username' textarea, enter the following usernames (one per line, as shown below):
sakai01
sakai02
sakai03
sakai04
sakai05
sakai06
(This is a set of users with names in alphabetical order, which will help with quickly determining that the correct users are in each group. If the users do not exist, you must log in as admin and create them.)
Click the radio button next to Assign all participants to the same role
Click Continue

The 'Choose a Role for Participants' screen is displayed.

Select access
Click Continue

The 'Add participant(s) to Test Project' page is displayed.

Click Continue

The 'Confirming Add Participant(s)...' page is displayed. The name, id, and role of the each person added in the previous step is listed.

Click Continue

The 'Test Project' Site Info page appears.

Verify default Manage Matrices configuration and behavior without groups

Click Matrices from the left hand menu.

The 'Manage Matrices' list page is displayed.

Next to Communications Matrix, click Edit.

The 'Edit Matrix' page is displayed.

Click Permissions at the top of the screen.

The 'Permissions' page appears.

Uncheck 'Can view all groups'
Click Save.

The 'Edit Matrix' page is displayed.

Click Return to list

The 'Manage Matrices' list page displays.

Click Communications Matrix

The read-only matrix of Kayla Foster (or whoever you are logged in as) will display.

Verify that there is only one drop-down list at the top of the screen, and that all current members of the site are listed there.

 

Create Groups

Click Manage Groups from the top menu.

The 'Group List' page is displayed.

Click Create New Group from the top of the screen.

The 'Create New Group' page is displayed.

For 'Title', enter A-C Group

In the 'Site Member List', select 'sakai01', 'sakai02', and 'sakai03', then click Add to Group

The selected names appear in the 'Group Member List'.

Click Add at the bottom of the screen.

The 'Group List' page is displayed with the new group listed.

Create a 2nd group: Click Create New Group from the top of the screen.

The 'Create New Group' page is displayed.

For 'Title', enter D-F Group

In the 'Site Member List', select 'sakai04', 'sakai05', and 'sakai06', then click Add

The selected names appear in the 'Group Member List'.

Verify that Kayla Foster (or whoever you are logged in as) is not in a group.

 

Verify Behavior When Groups Exist, but a Reviewer is not in any Group

The read-only matrix of Kayla Foster will display.

Verify that there is no drop-down that would allow kfoster to select a user to review.

 

Verify Behavior When Groups Exist and the Reviewer is a Member of Only One Group

Click on Site Info, then Manage Groups.

The 'Group List' page is displayed.

Click Edit link next to the 'A-C' group.

The 'Edit Group' page is displayed.

Select 'Kayla Foster' and click > to add her to the group.
Click Update.

The 'Group List' page is displayed.

Click Matrices in the main menu
Click Communications Matrix

The read-only matrix of Kayla Foster is displayed.

Verify that the 'Select User' drop-down is present at the top of the screen, and that all the members of the A-C group are listed.

 

Verify Behavior When Groups Exist and the Reviewer is a Member of More Than One Group

Click on Site Info, then Manage Groups.

The 'Group List' page is displayed.

Click the Edit link next to the 'D-E' group.

The 'Edit Group' page is displayed.

Select 'Kayla Foster' and click > to add her to the group.
Click Update.

The 'Group List' page is displayed.

Click Matrices in the left hand menu
Click Communications Matrix

The read-only matrix of Kayla Foster is displayed.

Verify that the following are present:
The 'Select Group' drop-down
The 'Select User' drop-down

With 'All' selected, verify that all site members are listed in the 'Select user' drop-down

Select each of the groups and verify that the correct members appear in the 'Select user' drop-down.

 

Verify Behavior with 'Reviewer Group Access' set to 'Unrestricted'
