Sakai 3 conceptualisation
...
Earlier conceptualisations:
- Sakai 3 Proposal - What Sakai 3 could be.
- Sakai 3 Participation and a recorded webinar.
Demos
- There is a demo server on which you can try out some of the functionality that is intended for Sakai 3 yourself, such as early, prototype work on content authoring, social networking, internal messaging, instant messaging, an improved user experience, etc. (Note: that this is only a demo server, and represents a work in progress. It will be updated with the latest milestone on the Sakai 3 Roadmap. Expect the functionality, capabilities, and user experience to evolve significantly as work on Sakai 3 progresses. As such the server is reloaded from time to time and data stored on it will not persist.)
- There is a Nightly build server that runs the latest front-end and back-end code. This is the server that provides the latest state of the development. However, because it's on the bleeding edge, it might be unstable from time to time.
- There is also the Sakai 2-3 Hybrid demo server that demonstrates the Sakai 2-3 hybrid mode functionality and will be fairly stable.
Building Sakai 3
In the context of the proposed Sakai Community Development Process the following efforts are taking place to build Sakai 3:
- A User Reference Group (URG) ensures direct community involvement in the design and development of Sakai 3. The URG develops mini-specs to capture requirements as part of the Design Process.
- Sakai 3 Design - A reconsideration of the metaphors on which the Sakai User Experience (UX) is based, as well as a modernization of the user interfaces to take leverage evolving web capabilities.
- Nakamura - An evolutionary re-thinking of the underlying framework for Sakai.
- Sakai 3 UI Development - Part of the project that is tasked with created the Sakai 3 User Interface which is aimed at using more modern UI technologies and making the UI more modular.
- Requirements Tracker - Tracking and gathering requirements from all stakeholders.
- Access the main page that will be used for Sakai 3 QA and Testing
- Maintaining a Sakai 3 QA server
- Sakai 3 accessibility statement
- Library & Sakai 3 Integration Project - Research and design around why and how instructors use "learning content" (both library and non-library resources) for teaching and learning. Important implications for content gathering, management and sharing in Sakai 3.
- Learning Activities - research and design around how users create, manage, deploy, take and evaluate learning activities (tests, papers, discussions)
