This is pretty key for us in 23 then (if it behaves as you say @Christina Schwiebert ) All of our online courses leverage the required/pre-req functionality of lessons and discussions such that we use it for enrollment verification ( connected to federal audits of students receiving financial aid ) were we must be able to demonstrate more than just login to the course as evidence of engaging with the course. I’ll keep an eye on this as we presently plan to hold off any upgrade to 23 until 2024.

If an instructor links to a forum topic, setting the option to not release until prerequisites are completed, when a student completes that prerequisite (or if there are no prerequisites), the button to Start a New Conversation is missing.
The button appears as expected if the topic does not have the prerequisite option set. If the instructor edits the link in Lessons and removes the prerequisite, the Start a New Conversation button appears.
Update - 2/24/2025: Did more digging - it looks like the Lessons prerequsite option isn’t setting the permissions in the Discussion topic. It’s changing the permissions for the Student role to “None”, but isn’t setting the corresponding Access: group to “Contributor”.
