mailarchivepatch.txt and kernelpatch.txt are patches which would make the xml to contain empty subject and body.
However email archive list still seem to get the subject/body data from xml rather than using the data from the subject and body columns. It seems to construct the sql from DoubleStorageSql (kernel) where the field to select (select xml) is hardcoded. Further, processing of the information from database happens in message project. It is not easy to change message project, as announcement has dependencies on it.
Ideally we should be able to get data from subject and body columns and use the data from them.
