This page is being used to capture thinking about use cases for potential vignettes to support incorporation of library-related information, data, or services into a Sakai 3 page. The information on this page is very preliminary and incomplete at this point.
What is a vignette?
The term vignette is being used on this page with the same meaning as on the general Sakai Potential Vignette Use Cases page, i.e. interchangeable with gadget or widget.
Add citation(s) to a page
Authoring experience
- Multiple possible modes of entering citations:
- Direct entry of citations via a form
- Import existing citations from tools such as EndNote, RefWorks, Zotero, and others
- Cut-and-paste of existing citations in standard formats (MLA, Chicago, etc.)
- Search library resources through metasearch, Google, Google Scholar, other sources
- Embed an existing Citation List from Resources tool
Viewing experience
- May see full list of citations or only partial list with link to view full list in new page/window
- Ability to sort
- Ability to export to various formats and tools
Add a library search box to a page
Authoring experience
- Embed a search box that is configured to search one of:
- a preselected set of databases
- Author selects databases to be searched by browsing list of databases organized by subject area
- the library's OPAC
- WorldCat Local, Google, Google Scholar, other commercial/free search services
- a preselected set of databases
Viewing experience
- User enters search terms, clicks search button
- Results display in new window?
- For metasearch, use native interface or Sakai-provided interface (ala Citations Helper)?
- What can users do with the results?
- Limited possibilities when using native interface for results

Authoring experience
- Select from a list of databases organized by subject category to generate an embedded database list
- Default to subject category based on course site metadata (e.g. department)?
