Integration of Goal Management Tool during Assignment Creation

Summary: Allow instructors to attachment goals (stored within the Goal Management Tool) to an assignment during the assignment creation process

Details: Streamline the way instructors associate goals to an assignment by adding a mechanism to perform this task as part of the assignment creation process.

At RINET, we've worked with rSmart to add a text box on the 'Add' and 'Edit' pages that permit teachers to enter the goal code(1) used to identify a goal into a box.  The system uses these codes to perform the association.

If the Goal Management Tool does not appear in the course site, it probably doesn't make sense to display this box.  Therefore, the page (when loading) should check to see if the GMT is present.  If it is, the box should be displayed.  If the GMT is not present, the box should not appear.  Instructors should have the ability to 'hide' the 'goal box' as a preference.

 
(1) Code used to uniquely identify a 'goal' or entry within the GMT.  RINET and rSmart made modifications to the GMT (including adding a new field to store the goal code).  This would likely be a prerequisite in Sakai 3 as well.
 

 

Import / Export Capabilities

 
 
Summary: Enable instructors to import assignments from (and export assignments to) external files.

 
Details: To enhance sharing capabilities among instructors, Sakai 3 should support the functionality to import assignments from (and export assignments to) files.  This feature would allow users both within and across institutions to share assignments.  It would also permit users to create backup copies of their assignments. Presumably, these files would be stored in XML format.
