Gradebook

purpose:

Verify that the Gradebook tool is functional

expected result:

User should be able to add assignments, enter grades, edit gradebook and manage groups.

test data:

CSV file (generated by Gradebook tool)

automation setup dependencies:

SiteSetup has been run, accessible gradebook tool, 2 user accounts(instructor and student)

manual setup dependencies:

Create a site (AM HIS 1) that contains the gradebook tool and two user accounts

  • aphillips(instructor account)
  • aallen(student account)

start at:

AM HIS1 1, Gradebook tool. Login:aphillips

Enter the following in the form:-

  • Grade entry:Points
  • Uncheck display released gradebook items to students
  • Select Categories and weighting
  • Assign 65% to assignments and 50% to exams
  • Click on save changes

An error message should be displayed "The input category weights do not total 100%."

Now enter the following in to the form :-

  • Grade entry:Points
  • Uncheck display released gradebook items to students
  • Select Categories and weighting
  • Assign 50% to assignments and 50% to exams
  • Click on save changes

A message should be displayed stating stating "Congratulations! Your changes have been saved"

Select the Add Gradebook Item link

Enter the following in the form:-

  • Assignment Title: Assignments for Spring 08
  • Grade item point value: 100
  • Due date: A week later's date
  • Select Category as assignments
  • Check release this item to students
  • Check Include this item in course grade calculations
  • Click add item

A message should be displayed "Gradebook item "Assignments for Spring 08" has been added".Check the due date. Released to Students should be set to Y and included in course grade should also be set to Y

7.

Select the Add Gradebook Item link

Enter the following in the form:-

  • Assignment Title:Take home Exam1
  • Grade item point value: 90
  • Due date: A week later's date
  • Select Category as exam
  • Uncheck release this item to students
  • Uncheck Include this item in course grade calculations
  • Click add item

A message should be displayed "Gradebook item Take Home Exam 1 has been added".Check the due date. Released to Students should be set to N and included in course grade should also be set to N

9.

Now select edit link against Take Home Exam1.

  • Change grade point value to 100
  • Check release this item to students
  • Check include this item in course grade
  • Click save changes

A message should be displayed "Gradebook item Take Home Exam 1 has been updated".Check the due date. Released to Students should be set to Y and included in course grade should also be set to Y

10.

Logout as instructor and login as a student :aallen/password.

  • Select the course site AM HIS 1.
  • Select the gradebook link from the left navigation links

No recently added gradebook item should be visible

11.

Logout as student and login as an instructor(aphillips/password)

  • Select the course site AM HIS 1.
  • Select the gradebook link from the left navigation links

Select gradebook setup link and check "Display released Gradebook Items to students " and click save changes

The user sees the message "Congratulations! Your changes have been saved."

13.

Logout as instructor and login as a student : aallen/password

  • Select the course site AM HIS 1.
  • Select the gradebook link from the left navigation links

All recently added gradebook items "Take Home Exam 1 " and " Assignments for Spring 08"should be visible.

Login as an instructor(aphillips/password)

  • Select the course site AM HIS 1.
  • Select the Assignments link from the left navigation links

Enter the following text into the form:

  • Title: TestAssignment
  • Assignment Point Value: 10
  • Due Date: (select tomorrow's due date)
  • Select Associate with existing Gradebook entry and from dropdown list select Assignments for Spring 08
  • Select the Post button

In a new browser/session, login as valid student (in appropriate class) to the Sakai Gateway

Select the Log In button

Test Assignment should not be visible

Select the Assignments link from the left navigation links

Test Assignment should be visible and status should be not started

Logout as student.Login as an instructor(aphillips/password)

  • Select the course site AM HIS 1 from Worksite setup.
  • Select the Assignments link from the left navigation links

Change the Assignment Point Value to: 100.Select the Post button

The grade scale changes to 0-100 with other values remaining the same

Select the Grade assignment settings link below the Test Assignment

User is directed to page which reads "submissions for Test Assignment". In Assign this grade to all participants without a grade enter 85 and click apply and then click release grades

Now from the left navigation links select the gradebook link

The test assignment grade should be reflected in Assignments Category and the class avg should be shown

Now select "Assignments for Spring 08" link

User directed to "Gradebook Item Summary" page.

Select the Log Icon next to allen's name

Without a page refresh, a small popup window appears stating the date and the score given to the student by the user who gave the grade

Select the X to close out the popup windown

The pop up window should close

Select the Edit Comments >> button

Page refreshes and under Grading Table, in the student's row, under Comments column, a new text area will be visible

Under Grading Table, next to allens's name, change points to 89 and type this in the comments area: TestComment and click the Save Changes button

Page will refresh with a new notification stating: "New scores and comments saved".Recently awarded points and comments will be visible in the form

Select the Log Icon

A small popup Grade Log appears with the date, new score, and score-issuer details added in a list to the bottom of the previous log message

Logout as instructor and login as a student : aallen/password

  • Select the course site AM HIS 1.
  • Select the gradebook link from the left navigation links

All the gradebook items should have a grade

To import the spreadsheet ,select the edited spreadsheet by clicking the browse button.

  • Click the Import spreadsheet button

The course grade file appears which the user can download

Open the downloaded spreadsheet and check the grade.

The grade for Allen should be F

Select the Gradebook Items link

Under Grade Display, check the box next to Display course grades to students now.

  • Select the Save button.

Only grades for the category assignments should be visible.

  • Allen's Grade for "Assignments for Spring 08" should be displayed

Only grades for the category exams should be visible.

  • Allen's grade for "Take Home Exam 1" should be displayed

In the all grades table click on the Details Link below "Take Home Exam 1"

Click on Previous Gradebook Item

Click on Next Gradebook Item

The user will be prompted to download a file which the user should download and save

Open the recently downloaded file

The file should contain the following information

  • Assignments for Spring 08 [ 100.0 ]:90
  • Course Grade :180

Change the points against allen to 89 and click the Save Changes Button.

A notification "New scores saved" must be displayed

The Average Course Grade should read B+ (89%) and from All Grades Table Take Home Exam 1 should be deleted
